FUN AND SOCIAL

A progressive and safe tumbling program for athletes 9-17 years

Tumbling is a non-competitive program that has been developed for athletes aged 9-17 years who want to become strong and confident tumblers on the floor and trampoline, without a high level of time commitment.

Some athletes use this program to supplement other sports such as acrobatics, cheerleading, dance or gymnastics, while others use it to maintain fitness and develop new skills after retiring from a gymnastics or acrobatics program. Athletes safely and progressively learn skills like walkovers, aerials, handsprings, back saults, twisting and tumbling connections. Split into intermediate and advanced classes, qualified coaches work with athletes to set individual goals and develop a plan to achieve them.

Our intermediate tumbling class is perfect for athletes who can confidently perform a cartwheel, handstand and backward roll. Our advanced class is for athletes who can already perform a round off back handspring, a front handspring and a front sault on the floor or trampoline.

What Benefits Can You Expect From Tumbling at Skylark

Our Tumbling program is split into two different levels:
  • TumbleSkills is an intermediate class, suitable for children aged 9-14 years who can confidently perform a cartwheel, handstand and backward roll
  • Tumbling is an advanced class, suitable for athletes aged 10-17 years who can perform a round off back handspring, a front handspring and a front sault on the floor or trampoline

Your weekly tumbling class is non-competitive, designed for children who want to develop intermediate to advanced tumbling skills without a high level of time commitment. Classes focus on confident development of basic tumbling skills, progressing to more complex forward and backward rotation skills. Your weekly class:

  • runs for 80 minutes
  • uses professionally developed lesson plans to learn to tumble on the floor and tumbling trampoline
  • is fun and individualised, with a strong focus on taking responsibility for your learning
  • develops strength, flexibility and fitness with nationally qualified, passionate and caring coaches
  • is great for making friends and becoming part of a community

Skylark Sports offers free trial classes as well as unlimited make-up classes so you can enrol with confidence.

If your child can’t yet perform a cartwheel, handstand and backward roll we would encourage them to enrol in our Gymnastics program so they can learn these foundation skills they need to have a great tumbling experience.

Can't make it or need to reschedule?

We want your child to enjoy the benefits of our programs so if you are away, your child is ill, or you simply can’t make it to your class we offer unlimited make-up classes. When a class is missed a make-up token is generated on your account so you can take an additional class at another time.

It is important to understand that your tuition pays for your place in the class, regardless of attendance. Our costs do not change if you do not attend. Makeup classes are offered as a benefit to our families to ensure that you can make the most of your membership. Make-up tokens do not have a monetary value, and cannot be exchanged for credit, transferred to other students, or used once an enrolment ends. Make-up tokens expire 365 days after issue.

Booking a make-up: Make-up classes must be booked in advance through the Customer Portal or through our customer service team. Make-up classes cannot be booked more than 3 days in advance as they can only be booked where a space exists.

Squad program - Uniform

Skylark uniform is compulsory for all athletes in the squad program. Requirements can be found in your squad handbook.

  • AcroSkills:
    Club pink leotard and jumper
  • AcroStart:
Club purple leotard, t-shirt, jumper and leggings/pants
  • Junior Squad:
Club purple leotard, t-shirt, jumper and leggings/pants
  • State/National/Elite Squads:
Club purple leotard, t-shirt and club tracksuit

Athletes in level 4 and above are allowed to choose optional competition leotards.

For athletes in level 6+, optional competition leotards are required. Optional leotards are the responsibility of the parents, but the design must be approved by the coach or program manager prior to ordering. See your squad handbook for further information.

Squad program - Competitions

The squad program is a competitive program. It is not the right program for athletes who do not want to compete.

Competitions and events are an important part of the athletes’ development, and it is where they get the chance to show off all their hard work. Competitions and events are a compulsory part of the program.

Your competition schedule is found in your squad handbook. You should add the event dates to your calendar when you receive it to ensure your athlete will be available. Please ensure that, unless they are unwell or on school camp, your athlete attends all sessions in the month leading up to an event.

Events and competitions are to be booked and paid for through the customer portal by the communicated closing date. External events have strict closing dates, and an additional 50% fee is charged for late entries. Please ensure you enrol on time to avoid this fee.

While we make every effort to provide you with the event calendar as early as possible, it is subject to change. Any changes will be communicated with you at the earliest opportunity.

Victorian competitions are usually scheduled across one or two full days. The athletes are usually only required for one session (2-4 hours), but the session times are not released until after the entries are received and the workorder is created. We will communicate them to you as soon as they are released.
We encourage athletes to stay and support their teammates competing in other sessions.

Squad program - Make-up classes

Make-up classes are not available for squads that train more than one session per week.

For athletes in squads that train one session per week, when a class is missed a make-up token is generated on your account. It is important to understand that your tuition pays for your place in the class, regardless of attendance. Our costs do not change if you do not attend.

Make-up classes are offered as a benefit to our families to ensure you can make the most of your membership. Make-up tokens do not have a monetary value, and cannot be exchanged for credit, transferred to other students, or used once an enrolment ends. Make-up tokens expire 365 days after issue.

Squad program - Discounts

As training hours increase, the hourly tuition rate decreases.

For squads that train one session per week, a 10% sibling discount is applied to the lesser tuition.

For squads that train more than one session per week, no sibling discounts are available.

When an athlete joins a squad, they are billed for all hours the squad trains. Discounts or tuition reductions for not attending scheduled sessions, arriving late or leaving early are not available.

Squad program - ending your enrolment

Enrolling in the squad program is a commitment to the team for the competition season, so unenrolling needs to be discussed with the program manager. Please email nikki@skylarksports.com.au to request a phone call or meeting.

One months notice is required to end your enrolment and cancel your direct debit.

I don’t want to pay by direct debit. Is there another option?

Your card or bank account on file acts as a guarantee of payment.

You are welcome to pay your account prior to the processing date each fortnight via the Customer Portal, in person by cash or via bank transfer. Any balance remaining on the processing date will be charged to your card on file.

If you prefer to make less frequent payments or pay a larger amount in one go to get ahead this can be done by any of the methods above. Your account will be in credit and each fortnight as tuition is applied your credit will be used to offset the charges. Ask our customer service team for details.

Where can I find your club policies?

Our Participation Agreement contains all the information you need to know about your enrolment at Skylark Sports. We appreciate you taking the time to read and understand the information contained, and encourage you to refer back to it regularly. You can find our Participation Agreement and other policies here.

What if my child is reluctant to join in?

New environments can be daunting, even for children who are normally very confident. We know that the first few times your child comes to Skylark they may feel worried or nervous about joining in. Our coaches and shift supervisors will do everything they can to help them engage in the program and support them to join the class. For some children, this may take a few moments. For some children it may take several weeks before they feel comfortable enough to join in. Each child is an individual, and we want them to feel comfortable. We will work together with the caregiver to meet the child’s needs and help them find the confidence to give it a go.

Is there insurance coverage for my child?

Skylark Sports is affiliated with Gymnastics Australia and Gymnastics Victoria. Each member is required to pay the Gymnastics Australia membership fee. This fee is charged once per calendar year and is collected by Skylark Sports, and paid to Gymnastics Victoria on your behalf.

This registration provides an assurance that you are participating with an affiliated club for which there are high standards of qualification and compliance. Further information about club affiliation can be found here https://vic.gymnastics.org.au/members-clubs/affiliation

All registered members are covered through Honan Insurance Group for personal injury. You can view the policy documents and what is covered on the Honan Insurance Group website. Should you need to make a claim, it must be lodged within 30 days of the injury. You can find the claims form here.

I’m running late to pick up my child. How can I get in touch?

Our phones are not always attended during class time so if you are running late and cannot get through, please do not worry. A staff member will wait with a child until they are collected. If you are more than ten minutes late, we will call you to make sure everything is ok.

Our phone number is 9544 8008.

What covid-safe protocols do you have in place?

We are actively following the directions of the Department of Health and Human Services (alongside our governing bodies Gymnastics Victoria and Gymnastics Australia) with regards to operational guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic. As an indoor sporting venue, we are subject to rules, regulations, and limitations in how we operate. We all have a personal responsibility to stop the spread of illness and together we can play our part to keep the community safe. Guidelines are constantly changing and will be communicated to all members as required.

Please do not send participants if they are feeling unwell or if they have been advised to isolate themselves by the authorities.

In the event of a lockdown or forced closure, credits will be applied for any classes cancelled that have already been paid for and billing will be paused. Your place is held in the class until we can reopen, at which time billing will recommence. If you decide to end your enrolment, please email us so we can refund any tuition held in credit.

Our current COVID Safety Plan can be found on our Member Document’s page.

I’m interested in competitive classes. How do I get involved?

We run a competitive acrobatic gymnastics program at Mount Waverley. Please email admin@skylarksports.com.au and ask for your child to be assessed for the squad program. This lets us know that you are interested in the program and allows us to determine whether the squad program is the right place for your child. Enrolment in our squad program is by invitation only and is restricted at certain times of the year to ensure competition preparation is not disrupted.
